Wodonga Gold Cup

November 25, 2016

Friday 25th November 2016

Wodonga Cup

The annual Wodonga Cup is the local country cup clash held at the small Victorian city of Wodonga, which sits right on the border with New South Wales in the Murray region.

Located around 300 kilometres outside of Melbourne, although the Wodonga Cup is part of the New South Wales racing calendar, it usually attracts more horses from north of the border than its own state.

Wodonga Cup Facts

  • Track: Wodonga, VIC
  • Date: Late November – early December
  • Distance: 1600m
  • Prize Money: $66,000

Worth around $66,000 in prize money and conducted over a mile (1600m) it is a summer race with the Wodonga Cup date scheduled for late November to early December each year providing a nice provincial staying race for off-season gallopers.

Run by the Wodonga and District Turf Club, the Wodonga Cup is the biggest and most popular of the eight race meetings held there each year.

The club also runs race meetings on the same days as Victoria’s major metropolitan racetracks do during the famous Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival such as on Caulfield Cup Day and Melbourne Cup Day.

The track that the Wodonga Cup runs on is a relatively flat course that boasts wide straights and sweeping turns.
